5 tips to maintain your healthy lifestyle while traveling & having fun!

Updated: Dec 10, 2019

Traveling is the greatest hobby one can have. It changes your perspective, teaches you lessons you cannot be taught in school & it opens your mind to new experiences. Every trip I have taken has been life changing.... I am grateful to have been able to travel as much as I did. One of my favorite things about traveling is trying all the different foods (So much DELICIOUS food in this world!). That being said, I never feel good when I eat unhealthy.. My body feels sluggish and my mind is foggy .... So I try to keep my healthy lifestyle wherever I am in this big blue world! I choose to nourish my body properly to be able to maximize all of my experiences.

I have heard many people say "It's hard to eat well while travelling".. I am here to say that's a myth! It's EASY to eat healthy on vacation.. it's just EASIER to eat junk! The temptations are everywhere. But who wants to be bloated, have indigestions, loose poops or low energy while traveling? Certainly not me!

Here are 6 tips on keeping a healthy consistant and balanced lifestyle.

1. Have protein in the morning.

Protein takes longer to digest therefore it will keep you full longer. I love to have eggs in the morning but greek yogurt, peanut butter on whole wheat toast or turkey bacon are also great options!.

2. Include vegetables in EVERY meal.

We all know vegetables are your body's best friend! Don't deprive yourself of yummy nutrient-dense foods because you are on vacation, your body needs it. Take a salad as an appetizer, change your side of fries for steamed veggies

Extra tip: Try to eat your veggies first. This will help you fill up before your meal to prevent overeating.

3. Drink LOTS of water throughout the day.

Staying hydrated is very important for overall health. It's easy to forget to drink water while exploring a new city and sometimes water isn't always available. Make sure to bring one or two water bottle with you wherever you go.

4. Prepare snacks.

If you know you will be gone without food for a while, bring a snack with you. Don't put yourself in a situation where you become hangry and run to the first bakery you see. Preparation is key. I like to always have almonds and fruits with me. It's convenient, easy to carry and nutritious. Find a local grocery store near you and buy some healthy snacks.

5. Move your body

No matter where you are find time to exercise. By this I mean walking, hiking, swimming, etc. I am not telling you to hit the gym everyday (unless that makes you happy!) but I find that by moving your body you become more energized and more likely to make health conscious decisions. Exercising helps you maintain your healthy lifestyle but also allows you to amplify your experiences by shifting your mindset.

This is probably my most valuable tip. Although you want to maintain a healthy lifestyle, do NOT restrict yourself. You are traveling, you are experiencing a different country, if you want to try different foods : ENJOY them! Focus on ''adding'' more delicious and healthy food (yummy vegetables and lean protein) and not restricting anything.

I hope this helped!! Always remember that balance is the key to success. So eat some protein, eat your veggies, drink water, bring snacks, move your body & DON'T restrict! Oh and remember to have fun, be silly & enjoy your travels!!!!!
